Marilyn Florence Jankowiak was born in 1939 and grew up on Clippert Street in Michigan - Martin, Detroit. She shared the upstairs flat with her parents, three siblings, and the little black dog on the stairs. Her maternal grandparents lived in the downstairs flat. Marilyn later went on to become the head nurse of Cardiology at Henry Ford Hospital.

For Mother's Day, her daughters commissioned me to draw a portrait of Marilyn's childhood home. I have aimed to portray the house as it would have looked in the 1940s when Marilyn would sneak up to the attic to hide and look out over the Detroit rooftops.

I make bespoke commissions of anything from your house, university or favourite building. If you are interested to enquire about a possible commission then please send me an email via I will be happy to discuss the potential project with you and send over a price estimate.
