Kensington and Chelsea fine art print featuring my hand-drawn illustration of The Royal Parks' Brompton Cemetery.
Located in West Brompton, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, it is one of London's Magnificent Seven cemeteries, which were established by Act of Parliament and laid out in 1839. Brompton Cemetery opened in 1840, originally as the West of London and Westminster Cemetery.
Deep into the Big Smoke, between the hustling and bustling streets of London lie The Magnificent Seven: Green islands of silence and contemplation, ruled by life, death and the balance of sins and virtues.
Seven secret gardens whose fate hangs perpetually in a tenuous string woven by your ability to survive the buzz of the surrounding metropolis.
'THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN • Illustration No. 3' features plants and creatures specific to the area which inspired the illustration: Dark Mullein flowers and a pair of angels holding a book and a laurel wreath. The book signifies knowledge and wisdom, while the evergreen wreath represents success and eternal life.
THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN illustration series represents that place where you feel calm and peaceful while the world is whirling on. I found inspiration for them while walking around Victorian London. But they are only about one specific place - that of serenity inside yourself amidst a world of chaos.
